Andrea Arroyo
A native of Mexico, Arroyo is a self-taught artist whose background in the field of dance is reflected in the fluidity of movement that characterizes the figures, mostly woman, in her work. She explores the archetypal roles of women based primarily on Biblical and mythological themes with modern references ranging from Frida Kahlo to Alice in Wonderland. Her works have been widely exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Mexico. Commissioned illustrations by Arroyo have appeared in The New York Times, The Village Voice, and on covers of The New Yorker. Most recently, the artist's work has been acquired by The Smithsonian as part of this institution's permanent collection.
